Check out this pancake-making robot in action

A pancake maker like a 3D printer

How cool is a pancake-making robot? Designer Miguel Valenzuela thought this idea was extraordinarily cool as he developed a PancakeBot that works nearly like a 3D-printer for food to artfully design beautiful and delicious pancakes. Valenzuela was inspired when reading a magazine that featured a pancake-stamping scale prototype made from LEGO blocks by the designer Adrian Marshall.

Valenzuela first made a functioning LEGO model for himself using an Arduino controller, an acrylic body, and stepper motors. He posted a video of this device in 2012 and shortly thereafter, the LEGO version of PancakeBot was displayed at the World Maker Fair in New York City. As shown in the video, this robot looks like it’s printing objects in the same manner a 3D printer would.

In 2013, Valenzuela began designing a fully functioning new-and-improved model. This version was constructed from an Arduino Mega, two Adafruit Motor Shields, a vacuum pump for batter control, two belt drives, and two stepper motors. The robotic apparatus made its first live public appearances on May 17 and 18 at the Bay Area Maker Fair.

Project PancakeBot is raising money on its website to cover its expenses. Perhaps this robot will hit the culinary market soon.
