1.25-Gbit/s laser driver features low cost

The PHY1040 laser driver and limiting amplifier for small form factor optical modules operating between 125 Mbits/s and 1.25 Gbits/s and is said to have the industry’s lowest cost. It is also said to be the first to support both VCSEL and continuous-mode distributed-feedback (DFB) and Fabry-Perot lasers for DDM (Distributed Data Management) and non-DDM applications.

1.25-Gbit/s laser driver features low cost

The chip’s driver output stage can be configured as a common-anode VCSEL driver, providing a modulation current up to 30 mA and a bias current of 20 mA, or as a continuous-mode laser driver, providing a peak modulation current of up to 80 mA and bias current of 90 mA. The 5 x 5-mm QFN32-packaged chip needs a 3.3-V supply and operates at -40° to 85°C. ($1 ea/large qtyavailable now.)
