1-A buck converter suits mobile phones and wearables

The AS1382 step-down converter operates from an input range of 2.7 to 5.5 V, and provides an output down to as little as 0.6V. It is 1-A synchronous buck converter that targets single-cell lithium-ion battery applications. It target board designs for mobile phones, portable media players and wearable devices. Offering efficiency as high as 96%, no-load current of 95 µA, and it draws 0.04 µA in shut-down mode.

The buck converter is housed in a 1.22 x 0.85-mm six-lead chip-scale package (WL-CSP6) with a 0.4-mm pitch. The device operates at an internally fixed frequency of 2, 3 or 4 MHz, enabling the use of a small inductor and an output capacitor of just 10 µF. It offers a fixed output of 1.0, 1.2, 1.5 or 1.8 V, and in a version with an output adjustable over the range 0.61 to 3.35 V. All support a continuous load current of 1A, and require. The device includes an internal synchronous switch, which eliminates the need for an external Schottky diode.
