1-GHz digital scope captures signals fast and faithfully

Can capture at 10 Gsamples/s, store up to 25 Mpoints, and rapidly perform complex signal analysis

Said to be the most capable scope in its class, the WaveRunner MXi four-channel 1-GHz digital storage oscilloscope has a maximum (interleaved) sample rate of 10 Gsamples/s — fast enough to capture 10 points for each cycle of a 1-GHz signal — and a memory capable of storing up to 25 Mpoints in interleaved mode (12.5 Mpoints per channel noninterleaved), to ensure a deep signal view. Use of the X-stream architecture, a proprietary data transfer and processing method, lets users capture and process waveforms 10 to 100 times faster than they can with other scopes.

The instrument accommodates a variety of analysis tools and applications, including WaveScan, an advanced search and analysis feature that can find problems triggering schemes alone won’t reveal. With more than 20 search modes, the tools can locate unusual events in a single capture or scan for an event in many acquisitions taken over a long period of time.

The scope has a 10.4-in. color touchscreen for easy viewing and operation, and also comes with a fast viewing mode, WaveStream, and LabNotebook for documenting tests and generating reports. A variety of optional packages help quickly analyze I2 C, SPI, UART, RS-232, CAN, LIN, and FlexRay protocols.

Also available are the 1-GHz WaveSurfer MXs with 5-Gsample/s rates and 10-Mpoint memory on each channel, advanced triggering, a math package with 1-Mpoint FFTs, and built-in HDTV trigger speeds. (WaveRunner MXi, $14,390; WaveSurfer MXs, $11,900 — available 4 to 6 weeks ARO.)
