1-GHz scopes are a benchtop in a box

Extending the InfiniiVision 3000 X-series, four digital/mixed-signal oscilloscopes — the two-channel DSOX and MSOX 3102A and the four-channel DSOX and MSOX 3104A, — up the series bandwidth to 1 GHz. Yet the instruments are priced like scopes with half the bandwidth, while offering such features as a function/arbitrary-waveform generator and, in the 16-digital-channel MSOs, protocol analysis, for deep insight into designs. Further, the scopes can optionally be configured with a three-digit voltmeter (DVM) and five-digit counter, making them a virtual benchtop in a box.

The DVM and counter which will also be offered for the entire 2000 and 3000 X-Series provide measurements that are decoupled from the scope’s triggering system, so users can make DVM and triggered scope measurements simultaneously with the same connection. DVM results are presented with an always-on seven-segment display to make these quick-characterization measurements readily available.

To complement these scopes, an active 1-GHz probe, the N2795A, is being offered separately. The activeprobe avoids the impedance trade-offs of passive probes, yet has a price tag comparable to passives with equivalent bandwidth. (Scopes from $9,950 to $15,500; DVM option, $75; 1-GHz active probe, $995 — available now. Two- and four-channel 500 MHz X-series 3000 DSOs are upgradable to 1 GHz for $2,340 and $3,070, respectively.)
