1-Tbyte HDD targets laptops

The Spinpoint M8 hard-disk drive features 1-Tbyte capacity and is intended for internal use in mobile computing applications such as notebooks. The 9.5 x 69.75 x 100.3-mm unit weighs only 107 g and takes 2.2 W in read/write and 0.2 W in standby on average.

The drive operates on a 3-Gbit/s SATA interface with an 8-Mbyte buffer and EcoSeek and NoiseGuard features for minimal noise levels. Average seek time is 12 ms, and average latency is 5.6 ms typ with maximum data transfer rates of 145 Mbits/s media to/from buffer and 300 Mbits/s buffer to/from host. ($129 MSRP — available now.)
