10-GbE transceiver supports 10GBase-KR

The BCM8071 10-GbE serial transceiver supports the new IEEE 10GBase-KR standard for backplane systems and incorporates a sophisticated receive equalizer that extends the life of today’s 1-Gbit/s systems. The chip is a fully integrated SerDes 10.3125-Gbit/s interface device with 8B/10B coding, 64B/66B coding, a clock multiplication unit, and clock and data recovery.

The 13 x 13-mm FBGA-packaged IC dissipates less than 2 W from a core supply of 1.0 V and has 3.3-V I/O. It features loss-of-signal detection, link activity indicator outputs, and an integrated packet generator and checker. ($60 ea/1,000—samples available now.)
