13-MP camera kit runs on multiple platforms via USB port

THine’s 13-MP camera kit is verified to run on Windows, Linux, Mac, Android, Raspberry Pi, and Jetson platforms via a USB port.

THine Solutions, Inc., a THine company, has verified that its THEIA-CAM THSCU101 13-megapixel (MP) phase-detection auto-focus (PDAF) USB video class (UVC) camera kit operates on Windows, Linux, Mac, Android, Raspberry Pi, and Jetson platforms through the USB port. Applications for the reference design include medical scopes, AR glasses, barcode readers, vision assistive devices, drones, surveillance cameras, biometric devices, body cams, USB webcams, surgical microscopes, and machine vision systems.

These supported platforms use a variety of operating systems including Windows, macOS, Big Sur, Android, and Linux. THine’s website includes upgraded Quick Start Guide information in the THSCU101 section that explains how to integrate the THEIA-CAM with Windows PC, Mac, Android, Raspberry Pi, and Jetson computers.

The THSCU101 Kit, introduced last May, is based on THine’s THP7312 image signal processor (ISP), Sony’s IMX258 13-MP CMOS PDAF image sensor, and Cypress’ EZ-USB CX3 USB 3.0 camera controller. It provides ISP and USB control firmware, reference circuit schematics,  and high performance resolution including 1080p and 4K Ultra HD. The THEIA-CAM also adds PDAF technology that provides the ultra-fast auto-focus functionality.

The THP7312 ISP supports high-resolution performance of up to 16 MPs with high throughput, low latency, and low power consumption. The Cypress CX3 adds SuperSpeed USB connectivity to any image sensor that is compliant with the MIPI Camera Serial Interface 2 (CSI-2) standard.

The ISP firmware compensates for CMOS camera module variations to maintain unit-to-unit image quality in production. The image quality of THEIA-CAM is said to provide performance exceeding the iPhone12 image quality in several areas.

The reference design kit includes a single 35 × 36 mm (1.38 × 1.42 inches) board and enables plug-and-play operation. It includes firmware optimized for all USB camera functions, which helps to shorten development time. Developers can use the design kit as a production-ready final product or as a development tool for high-resolution camera systems, said THine. The THUSCU101 can be purchased at Digi-Key.

The THEIA-CAM kits address a variety of camera applications. Kits include the THSCU101 and the THSCM101. The THSCM101 is a camera designed to directly work with NXP i.MX 8M family evaluation kits.
