The MC33771 battery cell controller and companion MC33664 isolated communications interface include fourteen cell balancing transistors, a current sensor with ±0.5% accuracy from mA to kA, and a 2 Mbps communication transceiver interface, all integrated into a single 64-pin QFP package. It incorporates many critical functions required for controlling a single 48 V battery pack, including the capability to synchronously measure currents and voltages with 2 millivolts of accuracy.
The battery controller and comm interface have built-in diagnostics to protect battery packs against critical fault conditions, and has a transformer-coupled isolated high-speed transceiver to eliminate the need for isolated CAN busses to meet ASIL-C requirements. The MC33771 is a Li-Ion battery cell controller IC designed for automotive and industrial applications such as HEV, EV , ESS, UPS systems. The device performs ADC conversions on the differential cell voltages and currents as well as coulomb counting and temperature measurements. The device features embedded balancing transistors as well as diagnostics to simplify applications. It communicates through SPI or transformer isolation to a microcontroller.
