18-V, 3-A dc/dc converter features 3 x 3-mm footprint

The MIC24085x family is a fixed frequency, current-mode dc/dc converter with integrated power MOSFETs. The MIC24085x series is optimized for +12-V rails and provides a flexible and cost-effective solution for distributed power systems and communication applications. The MIC24085A provides an adjustable output voltage from 0.9 to 5.5 V. The MIC24085B/C/D/E/F provide fixed output voltages at 1.5-, 1.8-, 2.5-, 3.3- and 5-V respectively.

The dc/dc converters operate with an input voltage range from 4.5 to 18 V and deliver 3 A of output current while operating at a fixed frequency of 1 MHz. Peak current mode architecture is used to provide fast transient response. At light load, the pulse frequency modulation (PFM) mode is used to boost overall efficiency.
