2nd-generation Internet application processor has up to 32 cores
The OCTEON II CN63xx Internet Application Processor (IAP) family of multicore MIPS64 processors offers up to 4x performance over the previous version, as well as more than twice the performance per watt. The processors have 1 to 32 cores and up to 75 application acceleration engines for QoS, packet processing, TCP, compression, encryption, and RAID. They feature a Hyperconnect crossbar with low-latency and virtualization features.
The cores run at 0.80 to 1.5 GHz and, using the chips’ power optimizer, the devices in the family consume only 2 to 60 W max. The chips have a low-latency 64-bit DDR3 memory controller with 100-Gbit/s DRAM bandwidth, SGMII with a IEEE 1588 time stamp, and XAUI, PCIe Gen2, and sRIO interfaces. ($59 to $199 ea/10,000 — samples beginning 4th qtr.)
