The Caviar Green 3 Tbyte SATA hard drives are said to have the industry’s largest capacity. The 3.5-in. drive uses 750-Gbyte-per-platter areal density technology. It has a 64-Mbyte buffer and takes 6.2 W in read/write, 5.5 W in idle, and 0.8 W in standby.
Drives with capacities over 2.19 Tbytes currently present barriers for PC hardware/software. The Caviar Green 2.5- and 3-Tbyte drives feature an Advanced Host Controller Interface (AHCI) compliant host bus adapter, which will enable the operating system to use a known driver with correct support for large-capacity drives.
