3-TB desktop HDD overcomes 2.1-TB limits

The Barracuda XT (ST33000651AS) hard-disk drive features a massive 3-Tbyte capacity with installation features to overcome the PC 2.1-Tbyte barrier. Said to have the highest capacity available for home desktop computers and servers, the 3.5-in. 7,200-rpm drive has a SATA 6-Gbit/s interface and a 64-Mbyte cache.

The drive uses a maximum of 7.8 W in idle, 9.2 W active, and 0.6 W in standby. It has five platters, an average latency of 4.16 ms, and an annualized failure rate of just 0.34%. The HDD comes with a 5-year warrenty. (MSRP $280 — available now.)
