32-bit PIC MCUs are small, low cost

The PIC32MX1 and MX2 32-bit MCUs include up to 128 Kbytes of flash and 32 Kbytes of RAM, two I2S interfaces for audio processing, and a peripheral for mTouch capacitive touch buttons. They are rated for operation up to 105°C (optional), provide 61 DMIPS of performance, and come in packages as small as 5 x 5 mm with 28- to 44-pins.

The chips have a 10-bit, 1 Ms/s, 13-channel A/D converter, a real-time calendar clock, and the MX2 adds USB OTG. They have six channels of DMA, run at up to 40 MHz, and use 2.3 to 3.6 V. (From $2.14 ea/10,000 available now.)
