32-bit processor IP increases performance

The MIPS32 74K IP cores are said to be the industry’s first fully synthesizable processors to achieve operating frequencies greater than 1 GHz in a 65-nm process. The IP increases performance by as much as 60% over previous versions and targets DTV, set-top boxes, DVD players/recorders, broadband access, PON, and VoIP applications.

Performance gains are accentuated by a 17-stage pipeline, superscalar, asymmetric dual-issue, out-of-order instruction dispatch and completion, and fast data movement with 128-bit L1 caches. One version has a base integer core and a second includes a FPP. Running at 0.83 to 1.04 GHz, the cores use 0.63 to 0.76 mW/MHz and provide 1.8 DMIPS/MHz. (Contact company for prices—available now.)
