4-channel LED driver with dedicated 3D TV is industry’s first

Claimed to enable the best-possible 3D effects in the slimmest LCD TVs, the AS3696 four-channel LED driver is said to be the first to include a special control mechanism for 3D effects. With a channel-to-channel accuracy of ±1%, the backlight-unit IC is a precision LED controller with PWM inputs and internal PWM generators. It is designed for driving external FETs in LCD backlight panels, allowing long LED strings and the high currents used in 3D mode.

Features include an on-chip shunt regulator and built-in safety features, including thermal shutdown and open and short LED detection. The device also provides a unique power feedback regulation for controlling external power supplies. It is housed in QFN32 and TQFP32 packages.
