40-nm FPGAs offer 2X logic-element count

The Stratix IV FPGA and HardCopy IV ASIC families are said to be the industry’s first in a 40-nm process and feature up to 24 8.5-Gbit/s serial transceivers — each of which consumes only 165 mW. The FPGAs have up to 680 K logic elements, twice as many as the previous version.

The FPGA family has two variants, one enhanced with memory and DSP resources (E version) and the other with enhanced transceivers (GX version). The family supports PCI Express Gen 1 and 2 and a wide range of protocols including Serial RapidIO, XAUI, CPRI, CEI 6G, Interlaken, and Ethernet. While static power remains about the same as the previous version, dynamic power is reduced by as much as 30%. (Contact company for pricing — samples available 4th qtr.)
