The LT3478 and LT3478-1 LED drivers can drive (in boost mode) up to six 700-mA LEDs in series from a 12-V input, suiting the devices for applications such as automotive display backlighting. The LT3478-1 uses an internal current sense resistor, limiting output current to 1 A, whereas the LT3478 uses an external sense resistor to extend the maximum LED current up to 4.5 A.

Features include an input range from 2.8 to 36 V, efficiencies up to 90% in boost mode, inrush current protection, open LED protection, and programmable soft-start. Housed in a 16-pin TSSOP-16E package, the part features a 4.5-A 60-mW 42-V internal switch. (From 3.60 ea/1,000�stock.)
