The Ultrastar SSD400M MLC solid-state disk drive family is billed as a reliable, cost-effective alternative to SLC SSDs. The drives use Intel’s 25-nm-high endurance MLC NAND flash and specify a 2-Mh MTBF. They come in a 2.5-in. form factor with a 6-Gbit/s SAS interface and 200- or 400-Gbyte capacities.
The drives feature high write endurance with 7.3 petabytes (PB) lifetime random writes, or 10 full drive writes/day for five years with sequential throughput performance of up to 495 Mbytes/s read and 385 Mbytes/s write. They also deliver up to 56,000 read and 24,000 write sustained IOPS and typically take only 1.7 W idle and 5.5 W operating. (Contact company for price — production September.)
