400-mA battery charger IC targets many chemistries

The LTC4121 constant-current/ constant-voltage 400 mA charger suits Li-ion, LiFePO4 and lead-acid batteries accepts from 4.4 to 40-V input. It offers a programmable 3.5 to 18-V battery charge voltage range with ±1% accuracy. The fixed output float voltage version, LTC4121-4.2, is suitable for 1S Li-ion battery packs. It enables charging efficiency up to 94%. Typical applications include handheld instruments, solar-powered devices, as well as industrial and military sensors and devices.

To accommodate high impedance input sources such as solar panels, the charger IC regulates its input voltage to a programmable percentage of the input open circuit voltage. If the input voltage falls below the user-defined percentage of the open circuit voltage, charge current is automatically reduced. It features programmable charge current from 50 to 400mA. The IC is 0.75 mm high in a 16-pin, 3 x 3-mm QFN package and operates from . -40° to 125°C.
