5 best mobile apps to scare your friends

Use these apps to terrify your friends on Halloween

Halloween is a wonderful time of year. There’s something invigorating about a good scare, not to mention those pounds of sugar zipping through the bloodstream from all of the Halloween candy ,that just makes the holiday special. But if you want to be the one doing the scaring, take a look at the mobile apps below, all of which will let you terrify your friends with a simple touch of your finger.

1. Terrify your easily fooled or highly superstitious friends  with Ghost Capture. This mobile app for Apple devices allows users to capture “paranormal activity” in every photo.

Simply take a suitable photo and then choose from a selection of ghosts to upload into the image. Adjust the size, rotation, and transparency of the ghost, until you can realistically convince you friend that their house or basement or bedroom closet is haunted.

2. For friends who won’t be easily scared off by ghosts, download the SHOCK app for Android to make those friends jump in three easy steps. First, choose one of the app’s terrifying pictures—I recommend the truly horrifying evil clown. Next, choose an accompanying horrifying sound. Lastly, set the time you want the image and sound to appear on your phone. When you give the phone to a friend, the image and sound will play at this set time, and your friend will probably have nightmares about evil clowns for days.

3. Nothing makes people jump more than an unexpected sound. Developed especially for the holiday season, Halloween Soundlab for the iPhone or iPad comes with 13 sound loops including “Screams of the Wretched,” “Dragging Chains,” and “Zombie Attack,” perfectly engineered to terrify your friends or make them chuckle, all depending on how the app is used. Users can play each sound individually, or mix and match any of the sounds to create a delightfully terrifying Halloween cacophony at any moment. The Scary Sounds app achieves the same effect for Android devices.

4.To utterly freak out your friends, download the Ghost Radar Classic app for Android devices. While other apps on this list were developed as jokes, Ghost Radar was specifically designed to detect “real paranormal activity” using the sensors in your phone. The app will inform the user of detected paranormal activity, which means lots of gratifying noises and cracklings and half-mumbled words, so whether or not you’re a believer, it’s definitely something fun to use on your friends on a dark Halloween night. There are variations of the app also available for Apple devices.

5. Finally, get your friends to play the Slenderman app, available for free for Windows, Mac, iPhone, and Android products. While this is actually a game rather than an app speficially developed to scare people, it’s an absolutely terrifying game that has the feel of a horror movie and will give you nightmares possibly forever, let alone during Halloween. If all else has failed, getting a friend to play a game that makes the user wander around a dark forest, trying to avoid a faceless man in a suit with creepy music close to or on Halloween is a surefire way to terrify them.

Hopefully, one or all of these apps will allow you and your friends to have a terrifying upcoming Halloween. And for those who are just planning a quiet Halloween evening, safe from scary sounds, ghosts, or Slenderman (especially Slenderman), there are always apps such as Creepy Tales or Scary Stories, featuring a variety of Halloween stories that will entertain you with just the right amount of terror.
