5 Best Tech Projects Funded by You!

Indiegogo projects that could change the world

Like Kickstarter, Indiegogo is a website where artists, inventors, and entrepreneurs can find the funding that they need for their projects without having to sell them to the highest corporate bidder: all they have to do is reach out to the crowd, where millions of people help their project turn into a reality by donating as little as one dollar. If you are a technology lover, here are five projects you either need to go fund or put on your wishlist:

1. Wise Button

Described as the “universal button,” Wise Button connects to your smartphones, tablets, PCs, laptops, and music players — pretty much any electronic device. Using Wise Button’s small, user-friendly interface, you, the user, can control all  your devices remotely, from turning on music, to browsing through your photo gallery, video files or website without even touching the device they are stored on. Wise Button can be used to remotely take pictures or videos using your built-in camera, and it is sure to be a great tool for presentations: you can skip through a slide or control the presentation without even being in the room. So far, Wise Button is very far from its $37,000 financial goal, and there are only 41 days left in the campaign. Go to Indiegogo right now to help fund it, and Wise Button’s creators will give you rewards, depending on how much you’ve pledged.

2. Lapa

This campaign ended last week with a surplus of funds, and as a technology enthusiast that's something to be excited about. Using this tiny little device, you can keep track of all the things you normally use, like your car keys, wallet, or phone — and your friends on social media can help you find it! By attaching a Lapa to something you don’t want to lose, you can automatically find it by accessing the Lapa App, available for Android and iOS. Lapa also accesses social networking to scan and permanently remember your item’s location, so if one of your friends passes by the lost object, it will alert them and let them pick it up and give it back to you. It’s one of the most innovative projects on Indiegogo, and it’s so close to hitting the market!

3. Retrievor

A small little disk about the size of a quarter, Retrievor was created to be one of the world’s best — and definitely the world’s smallest — end-to-end GPS. Using the industry’s smallest fully integrated GPS module, complete with an on-board antenna, the Retrievor can operate in the most challenging of GPS environments, including in-door tracking and moving users. It can detect changes in context, temperature, and satellite signals. Retrievor also updates its internal parameters constantly to enable near-continuous navigation. And you have 13 days left to make it real, by helping its founders reach their goal of $80,000.

4. Libra System

If you hate going to the store, you should go contribute to the Libra System right now: it’s basically an electronic personal assistant that shops for you, without you even asking. Using a network of pads that can be placed under any product, the Libra System determines when to reorder those products based on your usage and shipping times, so your purchases simply show up right when you need them. No need to worry about or even create a shopping list: simply place the product on top of a pad, and Libra System’s software will take care of the rest. Currently, the inventors have raised $11,026 of their $45,000 goal, with 38 days left in the campaign.

5. ION Glasses

It seems like nearly every major company is working on smart glasses, ever since Google first announced its plans, but ION glasses seem to be more innovative and user-friendly than all of those designs. ION glasses are the first-ever optical or sunglasses to interact with your electronic devices, designed for usefulness first and sci-fi quality second. Using ION glasses, users won’t miss any incoming notification from their devices, including calls, messages, e-mails, and reminders. They can also control their presentations, take remote photos and videos, or recorder audio and play music. Furthermore, you can set it so you never lose either your glasses or your smartphone or tablet: when your glasses or tablet move out of a pre-specified radius, both will beep and alert you. The campaign has five days left, and is very close to meeting its $60,000 goal.
