Google has released details on its latest laptop model, the impressively-built HP Chromebook 11.
Here are the five things you should know about it:
Nice display
The HP Chromebook 11 has an 11.6-inch IPS (in-plane switching) display. The screen itself offers superb brightness at 300 nits and an impressive 176-degree off-angle viewing.
Virtual memory
Obviously, with this being a Google product and all, Chrome is the default OS. Running the system is a dual-core Samsung Exynos processor, and to back things up, the device comes with 2GB or RAM and a 16GB solid-state drive.
To the latter point, this is — obviously — not a lot of memory for a brand new laptop. But it should be noted that this was a conscious decision made by the Google / HP team. You see, the Chrome OS is set up as a cloud-based system where most of the programs are handled within and saved to the cloud itself.
To ease the user’s transition to this new way of running a device, those that purchase the HP Chromebook 11 will receive 100GB of Google Drive storage for two years, a 60-day free trial with Google Play Music All Access, and 12 free sessions of GoGo in-flight Internet.
Packed with goodies
The HP Chromebook 11 weighs just 2.3 pounds, but comes with a host of features, including a full-sized keyboard, headphone jack, and speakers that are “digitally tuned” and located right underneath the keyboard.
Also worth noting: the device has dual-band Wi-Fi (802.11n), is Bluetooth Smart Ready (4.0), includes six-hour battery life, gets powered by a microUSB jack, offers two standard USB 2.0 ports, and has a SlimPort for video output.
Extremely durable
The laptop features a magnesium-reinforced “skeleton”, according to Google's vice president of product management for Chrome, Caesar Sengupta. He explains that this helps keep the laptop’s weight down while still giving it solid, all-around construction.
The HP Chromebook 11 is super affordable and comes in two colors
Given the fact that this laptop comes from a major brand, is super small and pretty light, one would assume it’d be priced near the top of the market. Just the opposite, as a matter of fact: the Chromebook 11’s $279 price tag puts it among the more affordable laptops being offered today.
Those interested in purchasing the device will have two color options: white or black. Anyone who chooses the white model will have the additional option of getting their Chromebook with different color accents.
