500-mA LDO squeezes into tiny package

1-mm-profile part is offered as alternative to MIC5219/5319 parts

An alternative to Micrel Semiconductor’s MIC5219/5319 parts, the CAT6219 LDO regulator is presented as one of the only few devices available that provides a 500-mA peak output in a 1-mm-profile thin SOT-23 package. The part offers a typical quiescent current of 55 µA and a dropout voltage of 300 mV at 500-mA load.

Additional features include an external 10-nF bypass capacitor, a turn-on time of less than 150 µs, current limiting, and thermal protection. The CAT6219 is designed to eliminate battery drain when not in use by entering a zero-current shutdown mode. ($0.28 ea/10,000samples available now; prod qty 6 to 8 weeks ARO.)
