6 Gbit/s SATA controller handles SSD & HDD

The 88SE9130 6 Gbit/s SATA controller enables break-through dual SSD/HDD performance for high-end embedded and consumer designs. Configured with one hard disk drive and one solid state drive, the chip automatically pins hot data files and directories to a SATA SSD while enabling all data to be safely stored on a larger capacity SATA HDD.

The technology, called HyperDuo, has show in industry-standard benchmarks it can achieve 80% of the performance of a SATA SSD while storing all data on a traditional large capacity SATA HDD. The the QFN76 packaged chip takes 1 W, has an 1x PCI Express 2.0 interface, and supports I2C for enclosure management. (Contact company for price — available Q1.)
