8-bit MCU handles USB, precision analog

The 8-bit AVR XMEGA A4U MCU includes 12-Mbit/s full-speed USB 2.0, a precision analog subsystem, and a four-channel DMA controller. The chip’s eight channel Event System peripheral interface can handle USB communication with low load on the main CPU. The processor features sleep current of just 100 nA with 5-µs wake-up time. Active power with a 32-kHz clock and 1.8-V supply is 50 µA.

The MCU features two 2-Msample/s 12-bit A/D converters with programmable gain stages and operation down to 1.6 V, along with two 12-bit D/A converters. It has 16 to 128 Kbytes of flash, 4 to 8 Kbytes in a boot code section with lock bits, up to 2 Kbytes of EEPROM, and 8 Kbytes of SRAM. The device operates at 40° to 85°C from 1.6 to 3.6 V at up to 32 MHz and has an AES and DES crypto engine, a capacitive touch interface, a CRC-16 and -32 generator, and a 16-bit RT counter/oscillator.
