80-W DC/DC converter provides 10-year warranty

Cosel’s rugged 80-W DC/DC converter delivers long life and high efficiency for demanding applications

By Gina Roos, editor-in-chief

Cosel Co, Ltd. released a high reliability 80-W DC/DC converter, the MGF80, with a failure rate of less than 30 parts-per-million (ppm). All components used in the manufacture of the supply are selected for a very long lifetime, enabling the company to guarantee a 10-year warranty.

Designed for a range of demanding applications, the MGF80 series is available in two input voltage ranges: 9 V to 36 V, and 18 V to 76 V. A single-output version, the MGFS80, is available in four output voltages — 3.3, 5, 12, and 15 V, and can be adjusted within a range of +/-10% using a resistor bridge or potentiometer. A dual-output version, the MGFW80, is available in two, factory-trimmed output voltages, +/-12V and +/-1 5V.

Synchronous rectification and soft-switching technology contribute to the MGF80 series’ 94% typical efficiency. The MGF80 series operates over a  temperature range of -40°C to 85°C with a maximum case temperature of 110°C. Other features include overcurrent and overvoltage protection, and thermal protection that switches the unit off when the maximum allowable safe temperature is reached.

The devices have passed three-axis vibration testing equivalent to 10G and shock testing of 50G. Applications include industrial, IoT, and mobile equipment, particularly in demanding applications.

The MGF80 devices are packaged in a six-sided, brass, nickel-plated housing in an industry standard 50.8 × 25.4 × 9.9 mm (2 × 1 × 0.39 in.) footprint. The series provides an input-output isolation of 1500 VDC, and an input and output to case isolation of 1,000 VDC. It is UL62368-1, C-UL [CSA62368-1) and EN62368-1 approved, and has a CE mark 2014/35/EU. The MGFS80 and MGFW80 are RoHS compliant.
