The PCMDS80 primary switched dc/dc converters are designed for rail and vehicle technology as well as for industrial and telecommunication applications. They are available with 80-W output and operate according to the single transistor forward converter topology with a frequency of 50 kHz. With the help of a transformer and a secondary linear choke, a galvanically isolated output voltage (12, 13.8, 24, 27.6, or 48 V) is produced, which is adjusted by pulse-width modulation. The converters are available with three input ranges covering the battery voltages of 24, 36, 48, 60, 72, 80, 96 and 110 V.
The dc/dc converter base plate measures 119 x 100 x 40 mm. With the heat sink it measures 119 x 115 x 65 mm. The converters need no ground load and are short-circuit protected by primary and secondary power limiting. Cooling is achieved by free convection. The converters without heat sink have to be mounted on a heat-dissipating surface.
