LCD driver IC allows battery operation

The e1350 LCD driver IC operates on supply voltages as low as 3 V and
typically uses only 95 microamps supply current. The device interfaces
with most 4-, 8-, or 16-bit microprocessors to drive up to 128
segments–or 16 characters–on an LCD. The e1350 can operate in direct
mode as well as 4:1 multiplexing and includes an I2C bus interface,
a single-pin integrated oscillator, display memory switching,
auto-increment loading, and device synchronization capability in
multidevice systems. The device operates from 2.5 to 6-V supplies and is
available in 40-pin DIPs. (Less than $3 ea/large qty–available now.)
