IEEE-488 interface for HP workstations

IEEE-488 interface for HP workstations

The SCSI488/H is the first IEEE-488 (HPIB) interface for the HP Model 705
and Model 710 workstations. The SCSI488/H connects to these workstations
(which have no expansion slots) via the SCSI port. This enables them to
control instruments, printers, plotters, scanners, and other peripheral
devices in IEEE-488 data-acquisition applications, for which they were
previously unusable. The SCSI488/H comes with a SICL (Standard Instrument
Control Library) software interface, which includes a library of modular
instrument communication functions. A single SCSI488/H connected to the
external SCSI port of an HP Series 700 workstation enables the workstation
to control up to fourteen IEEE-488 peripheral devices. Additionally, users
can daisy chain as many as six SCSI488/H interfaces on the SCSI bus to
control up to 84 peripheral devices from the workstation. The SCSI488/H
can transfer data between Series 700 workstations and IEEE-488 peripheral
devices at up to 1 Mbyte/s, which is twice as fast as HP's standard HPIB
interface. ($1,495–stock.) IOtech, Inc., Cleveland, OH Dan Lucarini
