Shielded enclosure has space-efficient design

Case accepts backplanes and plug-in boards of the same size

Most notable among the features of the Ratiopac enclosure from Schroff is
its integral subrack whose dimensions match that of a 19-in. subrack for
mounting plug-in boards and backplanes. This design enables the enclosure
to accept plug-in units of the same height as the case itself; for
example, a 3U case will accept a 3U rack. Other enclosures, without the
integral subrack, accept only plug-in units smaller than the case itself.
Also unusual in the enclosure is the use of conductive metal surfaces
rather than gaskets for shielding. This design achieves a typical
attenuation of 60 dB at 500 MHz for a typical 6U-high case. An additional
shielding kit is available for enhanced EMI/RFI protection. The stackable
enclosure is available in a 3U height with widths from 235 to 448 mm and
depths from 256 to 446 mm, and a 6U height with widths from 235 to 448 mm
and depths from 326 to 506 mm. It can be configured either as a desktop or
rack-mounted case through interchangeable handles and trim plates.
Backplanes and plug-in units can mount into the case from either the front
or rear. A self-supporting frame maintains structural rigidity with all
the covers removed. A choice of accessories, including carrying handles,
mounting rails, panels, and cable keepers are available. (3U case, from
$124–4 to 6 weeks ARO.) Schroff, Inc., Warwick, RI Gary McEldowney
