GPIB interface to four serial devices
This multi-channel GPIB-to-serial interface, the Model 4896, interfaces
up to four serial devices to the IEEE 488 bus. It features large data
buffers for each channel and a full IEEE 488.2 interface, and use SCPI
commands to configure each channel's operating parameters. Each of the
interface's serial channels provides RS-232-or RS-422/RS-485 signals and
runs at rates up to 38.4 baud. A 60 Kbyte dedicated buffer for each
channel and the 4896's 600 Kbytes/s GPIB data transfer rate eliminates the
possibility of data overrun, even with simultaneous multiple users.
Special SCPI commands have been added to the 4896 to drive the LCD
display. Each 4896 is shipped with a disk containing a menu-driven program
that walks the user through the SCPI configuration procedure. The
configuration program runs on any IBM compatible PC and includes drivers
for ICS's 488-PC2 and National Instruments 488-PC2A cards. ($895 — 2 to 3
