Data/fax modem chipset includes MNP 4/5 and V.42/V.42bis
The 89C124FX modem chip set integrates fax and data functionality with
error correction and data compression into two chips. It allows users to
build a high-performance data/fax modem that occupies only three square
inches of board space and consumes only 7 mW in power-down mode. The
89C124FX sends and receives facsimiles at 9,600 and 4,800 bits/s. In
addition, it functions as a V.22bis 2,400-bit/s modem. It also supports V.
42 and MNP 4 error correction, as well as V.42bis and MNP 5 data
compression. A common board can be developed for use with the company's
89C024LT/FT data modem chips. The chipset's microcontroller is available
in a 68-lead PLCC; its analog front end comes in a 28-lead PLCC or plastic
DIP. ($29.85 ea/1,000–available now.) Intel Corp., Santa Clara, CA
