IC allows multimedia communications
The YTM403–or Fax VOdem–combines fax, data, ADPCM voice, and Caller ID
capabilities on a single chip. It provides voice quality with resolution
to 16 bits at 9,600 bits/s and dynamic range to 72 dB. In addition, its
built-in voice record and playback includes ADPCM providing a 16-to-4 bit,
three-to-one compression and decompression ratio. The Fax VOdem is
capable of transmitting and receiving at 9,600 bits/s and uses 300 mW in
active mode; in power-down mode, it uses less than 1 mW. The YTM403's
controller chip, the GTM407, runs accompanying firmware. The firmware
includes V.42bis/V.42 features, auto-bauding capabilities to 38.4 kbits/s,
and high-speed serial voice communications. The YTM403 Fax VOdem is
available in 64-pin shrink DIPs, QFPs, or PLCCs. ($40 ea/1,000–available
