Chipset for digital telephone-answering systems
The Telephone Answering Device (TAD) chipset provides the core
functionality for digital telephone-answering systems. It includes
algorithms to perform low-bit-rate high-quality speech coding, near-end
echo cancellation, and acoustic echo cancellation for speakerphone
operation. The chipset comprises a ROM-coded DSP16A1, a T7513B 8-bit
μ-law coder/decoder, and an ASIC. It provides speech compression,
telecommunications signaling, memory management, and remote operation via
DTMF control. In addition, with an external ROM, the product supports
voice commands for user prompts and time/day information. The TAD chipset
typically consumes 85 mW. A development kit is available. (TAD chipset,
$16.95 ea/100,000; development kit, $1,990 each–available now.) AT&T
