Modules reduce FDDI development time

The Plug-and-Play FDDI (PPF) Design Kit reduces the risk and time to
market for new FDDI designs. The kit comprises a series of plug-in modules
with complete SMT software, as well as a simplified programming interface
in a single 3 x 7-in. daughterboard format. Debug ROM and extensive
documentation are also included. The modules are available in both
single-attachment station (SAS) and dual-attachment station (DAS)
versions. Both operate with copper or fiber mediums. The modules use
National Semiconductor's DP83200 FDDI chipset and provide the physical
layer, media access control layer, and station management functions
required by ANSI X3T9.5 FDDI standards. The modules eliminate design risks
associated with FDDI development, such as high-frequency clocking, ECL
design, controlled impedance board layout, and SMT interoperability
qualification. External communications interfaces include host,
content-addressable memory, and physical media dependent. Communication is
via a 32-bit shared buffer memory. (Single-attachment modules, $1,650;
dual-attachment modules, $1,950 ea/100; design kit, dual-attachment
station, $3,400–8 to 10 weeks ARO.) XLNT Designs, Inc., San Diego, CA
