PGA socket allows easy heat sink attachment
A pin-grid-array socket accommodates Motorola's 68040 microprocessor and
two-piece heat sink from IERC and Thermalloy. It contains four tabs molded
into the high-temperature polyester insulator that securely hold down the
microprocessor, heat sink, and spring clip. This fastening approach is
more secure than bonding the heat sink directly to the microprocessor. The
socket has low-force beryllium copper contacts that reduce insertion and
extraction forces. The precision-machined pins have a closed-bottom design
that eliminates solder wicking and flux contamination. ($6.50 ea/prod
