Using 1-in.-high characters, the Series 6800 Vista LED displays are
readable at up to 40 ft. The initial offerings come in 1 x 12 and 1 x 20
formats with red, green, yellow, or Hi-brite red LEDs. The LED viewing
angle is 150 degrees. Characters are formed using a high-definition 7 x 10
dot matrix. The modules are microprocessor controlled and have a
bidirectional, 9,600-baud, RS-422 serial interface with an RS-449 I/O
connector. An on-board character generator ROM provides for 96-character
US ASCII, General European, Cyrillic, Katakana, and Hebrew character sets.
The user can also download up to 16 custom characters. The display has
four software-controlled brightness levels with character blinking and
horizontal scrolling capabilities. The current requirements at 5 Vdc are
2.3 A (1 x 20) and 1.4 A (1 x 12). The devices measure 2.5 (H) x 0.9 (D)
in. with lengths of 20.55 in. and 13.85 in. for the 1 x 20 and 1 x 12
displays, respectively. The brightness levels reach up to 8.1 mcd. (1 x
20, red, $244; 1 x 12, red, $172–4 to 6 weeks ARO.) IEE, Inc., Van Nuys,
