Dc/dc converter achieves 80-W/in.3 density

Fully regulated converter meets MIL specs

A powerhouse of a dc/dc converter, the PJ Series produces 340 W in a
package measuring just 2 x 4.25 x 0.5 in. It is built using patented
integrated magnetics and achieves a watt-density greater than 80 W/in.
3–the highest of any converter of comparable power, says the
company. The converter is designed for military applications and meets or
exceeds MIL-STD-704, MIL-STD-454L, MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-810E, and NAV
specs. The converter accepts a 155-V input and is available with 2.6-, 3.
3-, 5-, 12-, 15-, 24-, and 28-V single outputs. Output current ranges from
12.1 to 22 A, depending on output voltage. Efficiency ranges up to 90%,
and transient response ranges from 150 to 500 mV for a 25% load change.
Other specifications include a line and load regulation of 0.2%,
ripple-and-noise of 60 or 80 mVp-p, and temperature stability of 0.008%/
degreesC. The operating temperature range is -55 degrees to +100 degreesC,
and switching frequency is 250 kHz. Protection features for the converter
include remote sense, remote shutdown, external trim, current limit, and
overload protection. ($573 ea/100–8 to 10 weeks ARO.) Powercube Corp.,
