Board connects VMEbus to GIO bus
The Model 607 Adaptor is designed to interconnect a GIO-bus based Silicon
Graphics Indigo workstation to a VMEbus system. Either system can be a bus
master on the other system with supported data-transfer rates up to 25
Mbytes/s. The Adaptor comprises two boards–a GIO bus board and a 6U
VMEbus board. The two boards are connected with a round EMI-shielded cable
in lengths to 25 ft. Fiber-optic cable allows lengths of 2,000 meters to
be used. Communication features of the Model 607 include a direct
memory-mapped mode, DMA controller mode, and a slave DMA controller mode
that allows VMEbus devices, such as a disk controller, to perform a DMA
operation into a GIO bus system memory. Up to 8 Mbytes of dual-port RAM
are an available option. Interrupts can be shared between the two buses.
