The QED Product Design Kit uses the company's 68HC11-based QED embedded
controller board. The board measures 3.2 x 4 in. and comes with the Forth
compiler in ROM. Interactive debugging tools support breakpoint insertion,
tracing, and single stepping. The battery-operable board has up to 60 I/O
lines–including keypad and display interfaces–digital I/O, 16 8- and
12-bit A/D inputs, 8 D/A outputs, 8 timer-controlled signals, and dual
RS-232/485 serial ports. The 384 Kbytes of RAM is battery backed. The
design kit integrates the board with a 4 x 20 LCD, 4 x 5 keypad, power
supply, and prototyping board in an aluminum instrument enclosure. (Kit,
$875; QED board, $495–3 weeks ARO.) Mosaic Industries, Inc. Newark, CA
