Modules add digital capabilities to signal-conditioning system
Four modules provide high-channel-count digital I/O and relay control
capabilities for the manufacturer's SCXI multichannel signal-conditioning
system. The modules permit a user to monitor and control up to 3,072
digital channels by connecting a single PC and data acquisition (DAQ)
board to up to eight SCXI chassis, each containing 12 SCXI digital
modules. The four digital modules are the SCXI-1160, -1161, -1162, and
-1163. The SCXI-1160 is a general-purpose relay module with 16 independent
SPDT, or Form C, latching relays. The relays have very low on-resistance
and low thermal offset. They are thus suitable for switching,
multiplexing, and controlling low-level signals while maintaining high
signal integrity. The relays can also switch up to 2 A at 250 Vac or 30
Vdc. The SCXI-1161 is a power relay module with eight independent SPDT
nonlatching relays. The relays can switch up to 6 A at 250 Vac or 5 A at
30 Vdc. Each SCXI-1160 and SCXI-1161 channel has a normally closed
normally open, and common terminal. System developers can use the
SCXI-1160 and SCXI-1161 to activate and control devices with large drive
signals, such as motors, lamps, or heater. The SCXI-1162 and SCXI-1163
are optically isolated digital I/O modules. The SCXI-1162 has 32 channels
of digital input, arranged in eight optically isolated ports of four
digital inputs. The SCXI-1163 has 32 channels of digital output, arranged
in eight optically isolated ports of four digital outputs. The modules
connect to field digital logic signals, eliminating ground loops and
isolating the DAQ board and host computer from damaging voltages or
voltage spikes that may occur in industrial and research environments. The
modules have 1,900 Vrms of breakdown isolation voltage and 450 Vrms of
