Regulator IC eliminates need for EEPROMs

Regulator IC eliminates need for EEPROMs The CA3277 dual 5-V regulator IC
can eliminate EEPROM/EPROMs, line drivers, and receivers in
microcontroller/microprocessor-based subsystems that must retain memory
during main system power-down. The only additional part needed with the
device in such applications is a loosely regulated battery. The CA3277
operates from inputs ranging from 6 to 18 Vdc and provides a 5-Vdc 100-mA
standby output as well as a 5-Vdc 100-mA enabled output. When powering a
microprocessor, the enabled output serves as a primary power source while
the standby output supports volatile memory with quiescent current as low
as 500 μA. The CA3277 comes in 16-pin web DIPs. ($1.75 ea/1,000–stock.
