Audio codecs for multimedia PCs The CS4248 and CS4231 single-chip audio
codecs provide stereo 16-bit audio for computer multimedia systems, and
are pin-compatible with the AD1848. In addition, the CS4231 includes 4:1
adaptive differential pulse code modulation compression/decompression.
Both devices use the company's delta-sigma conversion techniques, and
include an 8-bit parallel interface for the ISA and EISA buses, analog
mixers, anti-aliasing and reconstruction filters, line and microphone
level inputs, and simultaneous capture and playback capabilities. The
codecs are provided with Microsoft Windows-compatible drivers and come in
68-pin PLCCs. (The CS4231 and CS4248 are $42 and $35 ea/1,000,
