Pressure transducer `smarts' ensures field interchangeability
NPS series smart pressure transducers consist of a micromachined silicon
piezoresistive pressure sensor and a digital signal processing (DSP) IC.
The sensors provide a compensated high-level output signal as well as 1%
interchangeable calibration over the range of -20 degrees to +85 degreesC.
According to the manufacturer, these are the first pressure transducers to
provide compensation of thermal errors and output calibration to assure
field interchangeability. NPS pressure transducers provide thermal
accuracy offset and full scale output of <_2b_>1% max and linearity error
of <_2b_>0.2% over the full -20 degrees to +85 degreesC operating
temperature range. NPS series transducers operate from a 5-Vdc power
source, thereby providing direct compatibility with digital systems.
Integral signal conditioning provides a high-level full-scale ratiometric
output voltage from 0.5 to 4.5 Vdc. Optional 7 to 36-Vdc operation is also
available. Initially the transducer will be available in the 0 to 15-psia
range. Additional pressure ranges from 0 to 1 through 0 to 100 psi will be
available shortly. (Less than $30 ea/1,000–stock to 4 weeks.) Lucas
