Advanced logic probe simplifies
digital troubleshooting

Designed to assist the engineer when first turning on or troubleshooting
a digital circuit board, the LogicDart advanced logic probe offers capabilities
well beyond that of a traditional logic probe. Like a standard probe, it
allows probing and quick checkout of a circuit. However, in addition to
monitoring logic activity, it allows the user to get timing diagrams, measure
dc voltage and frequency, and compare waveforms–all from a single probe
tip.

Until now, such testing has required the use of a variety of separate
diagnostic instruments–such as voltmeters, frequency counters, logic probes,
and logic analyzers. By combining many of the functions of these instruments
into a single handheld tool, the LogicDart allows engineers to move more
quickly through the digital troubleshooting process. In addition, its probe
is designed with a particularly sharp point and thin profile for easier
and more precise probing of fine-pitch digital circuitry.

Representing a new category of test instrument,
the LogicDart advanced logic probe incorporates
several functions–including a timing analyzer,
a logic monitor, a dc voltmeter, and a continuity
tester–to ease troubleshooting of fine-pitch digital circuits.

The LogicDart incorporates a 100-Msample/s timing analyzer, a logic
monitor, a 31/2-digit-resolution dc voltmeter, and a continuity tester,
and it provides data to the user both audibly and visually. For analyzing
signal timing, the instrument can display three input channels simultaneously
with up to a 10-ns resolution and can store up to ten 2,048-sample waveforms.

Each channel has independent triggering, and all three channels can
be set up for edge, pattern, and edge/pattern-combination triggering. The
LogicDart also has pan and zoom capabilities that allow the user to use
cursors on the graphical display to make precise delta-time measurements.

The LogicDart is battery operated and comes with an ac adapter. The
probe is preset for TTL, ECL, and CMOS, but can also handle custom-logic
functions. Optionally, it can transmit via an infrared link to a thermal
printer. Users may select help screens and other on-screen information
in English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish. (LogicDart, $795; portable
printer, $135–available now.)
