One of last year's more innovative products was
also one of the simplest: a one-piece fine-pitch
connector that alleviates the cost, space, and
reliability issues surrounding the mating of a
two-piece connector. The EECOM connector is a
one-piece compression-type connector that plugs
directly into the pc board's through holes.
The EECOM connector's one-piece design halves
the number of parts and electrical connections
and reduces material costs.
Eliminating the female portion halves the number
of parts and electrical connections and thus
lowers material costs. Priced competitively with
two-piece connectors, the connector will find
ready use in many high-speed board-to-board,
flexible-circuit-to-board, and bare-wire-to-board
applications. Molded in a high-temperature thermoplastic
housing, the connector comprises an orientation
pin, two bifurcated spring clips, and any number
of mating split-pin contacts. Each opposing pin
half presses against its side of the
plated-through-hole, with additional secondary
contact points created as the pins embed
themselves securely in the plated-through-hole.
This design results in higher reliability and
lower contact resistance.

The connector's tin-lead-plated copper-alloy
contacts carry 1 A at 100 Vac and are rated for
1,000 mating cycles. Other specifications include
a typical contact resistance of 0.5 milliohm or
less, an insertion force of 50 g/contact, an
insulation resistance of 500 Mohm, and a
dielectric withstanding voltage of 1,000 Vac.
