Connector system cuts
  costs, reduces parts
 High-density interconnect system eliminates
pc-board soldering and mating connector in SMT
  apps
The circuit-aligning restraining locking (CARL)
Connector interconnect system requires no mating
connector or soldering on a pc board in
  surface-mount applications. The reduction in
parts shrinks overall development cost and
addresses several usual points of system failure. The self-aligning system features CARL Snap
connectors that interface either flexible printed
circuits or flat flexible cables with mating pads
on the pc board. The connectors feature a
  clamp-pressure design that forces stress-hardened
terminals through surface oxides on the pc
  conductor.
Suited for controlled-impedance applications, the
patented design resists vibration and creates
gas-tight connections with zero insertion force.
Several multiposition systems are available with
various cable lengths. (20-position CARL Snap
  connector on 6-in. 40-position cable on 0.635-mm
  center, $6.23 ea/10,000–6 to 8 weeks ARO.)
