LSI Logic now offering MPEG-4 aacPlus on ZSP cores

The LSI Logic ZSP division and Coding Technologies, in collaboration with ESPICO, today announced the immediate availability of MPEG-4 aacPlus decoding for use on all ZSP digital signal processor (DSP) cores. The software module is performance-optimized for use with the proven, robust ZSP400 core to allow customers to quickly enable advanced mobile products.

  • Leading technology suppliers collaborate on powerful audio codec for advanced mobile products
  • aacPlus module + ZSP cores enable music download devices and TV to mobile phone applications

“MPEG-4 aacPlus is now essentially a mandatory requirement for mobile devices,” said Allen Nogee, principal analyst for the Wireless Component Technology Service of In-Stat. “The ability to use the aacPlus module with any of the LSI Logic ZSP cores will make it easier to develop applications such as music downloads and TV to mobile phones.”

Already standardized by MPEG and 3GPP, aacPlus v2 is AAC coupled with Coding Technologies' SBR (Spectral Band Replication) and Parametric Stereo technologies. SBR is a unique bandwidth extension technique that enables audio codecs to deliver the same quality at half the bit rate. Parametric Stereo enhances the codec efficiency a second time for low-bit-rate stereo signals.
