Used with a precision ammeter, the EF-400 measurement system characterizes a transmitter's fiber launch conditions. Included software translates meter readings into encircled-flux graphs.
Able to check 50- and 62.5-µm-core multimode fibers for IEEE 802.3ae (10-Gbit/s Ethernet) compliance, the 350-mm-long device has a meter-long attached optical fiber with user-specified FC, SC or LC connector and uses a large-area broadband photodetector to measure 800 to 1,600-nm wavelength inputs.
